I woke up this morning with the "shock" to learn the fact that today is going to be the last day I'll be moving freely around here.
Although my flight is scheduled on tomorrow's evening, but I'll be going to the airport around 3pm or so, as we're asked to gather there at 4pm, rather too early for us as we can only boarding at 6pm.
The concern behind asking us to gather at 4pm is due to the fact that anomalous circumstances may occurred while on the day going to the airport, which results in delay and late arrival. To have a 2 hours bolster period is a safety precaution, just in case anything....
Well then, last night I just went to airport to fetch sis back, today gonna be going out around the town, and tomorrow is going to be that very fateful day of mine.
Just to add something, I do appreciate those friends who said that wanna goto the airport to send me off. Many thanks for this goodwill, but I'll do fine with just less people around. I would feel guilty if there're more familiar faces around, wishing those "dreadful" wishes.... you know, the trigger to "catastrophe" lol....
So OK.... I'm gonna spend this last day dining out with the family, relatives. Tonight or tomorrow will be doing the last check, finalising things for good.... and I think I will only keep this laptop on the very last minute lol.
I'll be trying to write something more at the airport, KLIA or Changi, stalk their wireless network, heh.
My personal blog started in Nov 2004 archiving some of the memorable moments in life. It's also a journal of my personal development from a computer-loving teenager to becoming a digital marketer based in Tokyo. I may have a laughter or two when I read the entries again sometime in the future.

State of Feeling
Well, I'm actually quite surprise with my current state of emotion. You see, before this I expect that I'll somehow grew restless and somehow, mentally unstable prior a big journey ahead.
I still remember I was somehow stressed until I cannot get into slumber the day before going for National Service. I don't like how it feel, and somehow I needed some time to settle down my feelings.
I do admit that back then in 2007 I was naive, and right now I'm still in the process of learning to adapt in new environment.
Now in this case, it's some sort of different.
Going to Japan, the kind of feeling is quite different than going to oversea for holiday. Going for a holiday means that I just experience what the other countries can offer, and then come back to the beloved country.
Actually staying abroad isn't a bad thing, it's a good experience for sure. I kinda like Perth and Taipei. Since I went there before, so I wouldn't be so shock about staying there as I know how things are running there.
Although I went to China twice, but I don't really like to stay there, heh. I wonder how my sisters managed to stay there for such a long period of time.....
Now when it comes to Japan, I've heard and observe the country from various medias, and recently through the blogs of foreigners living in Japan. I mentioned foreigners, because they write in English and somewhat I can understand their point of view, which then I would think in depth about it.
A cool video to share, how the Japanese store their bicycles.....
But anyway, I believe like most of the places I've been to before, I need a little time to get adjusted to the situation, and once I'm OK with it, things will start to get rolling!
I just hope in the last few days here in Malaysia, I will be mostly OK with everything.... Japan is a land of promises, many dream to went there, and now I'm fulfilling part of my own dream as well.
Once a dream is achieved, next step is to think of another dream to come. For now I dream that someday, I'll be working with some of the peoples whom I admire and appreciate their work in the music industry.
My initial plan is to get a job or two in Japan once graduated from university. Try to gain some job experiences and get myself established. Then, depends on the situation, I might be coming back to Malaysia then. What to do next, it's all depending on to what extent I'm standing on by that time.
It's still a little too early to think about this yet, but it's always good to plan ahead for the future~ :)
Maybe it's just me, but I prefer to have the path laid ahead of me instead of slowly patching it up as I walk a step forward. Moving without planning ahead is a little risky, and filled with lots of uncertainties & unknowns. I'm not a risk-taker, so I would prefer a more secured route.
Is like you've many options to choose going to Osaka from Tokyo. You can take the airplane, Shinkansen, normal train, car, bus or ferry to reach there. No matter which method you chose to get there, eventually you will still reach the destination you wanted, just that you might have to pay for the price and time for it.
Few days later I would be taking another big step in my life..... with all the well-wishes, I'm pretty sure that things will turn out to be great for me!! :D
I hope that this post will somehow motivate or inspire the blog readers, in some methods. Decided to put some of the fine pictures I found on Flickr so that it won't appears to be a long-winded post, heh. :)

Farewell Gathering
2 months ago, I celebrated Ben's farewell, and last night, I celebrated my farewell with lots of friends. Time flies rather quickly, and I still blame the one who purged the extra days in February lol.
The location is set at Happy Seasons restaurant, a new hangout place for young peeps like us especially college students. Booked the place at "Winter" season as I'm an acquaintance of the owner Mr Goh. The event runs on rubber time, so guests are allowed to come late or leave earlier. I wanna make it a relax and chilled gathering. :)
The first few guests arrived were Michelle, Tzu Woei and Hilmi. At first I still can entertain most of them, but when the crowd started to build up, it's impossible for me to move around and interact with everyone.
Hilmi & Tzu Woei.
It's a gathering of some primary school friends, secondary schoolmates and then collegemates!
With collegemates!
I did had this concern about the peeps I called.... I expected some will turn out without informing, while some might not be able to attend due to last-minute scenarios or so. Nevertheless, more than I expected attended!
The plan is to make it some sort of like a networking opportunity for my friends to get to know some of my other friends. I'm not surprise that some of them somehow knew each others by chance before they attend my gathering. For example, Jolene and Huey Jiun met as they went to the same National Service camp, 2 years ago.
With my football gang, also secondary schoolmates.
During the Earth Hour period (2030 to 2130) the lights went off, and replaced by candles.
Collegemante Suyin supporting the Earth Hour!
Many complained that the air-cond is freakin' cold so they chill out at the balcony outside, which is actually the "Autumn" theme. I do admit the "Winter" is cold, but that's not the coldest, yet. :P
Secondary, 5S3 classmates!
Random secondary schoolmates.
Late dinner.... Stone-grilled rice mix with octopus, salmon fillet and chicken teriyaki. (I'm not good in taking food pics)
I'll try to collect the other pics from my friends soon, and upload 'em onto Flickr. Suyin was quick as she uploaded all the pics into her Facebook, many thanks to her! :D
The crowd disperse around 12am, as expected. Good thing everyone returned home safe and sound, heh.
Thanks for all the well-wishes, and also the gifts too! Lovely.... will treasure them nicely! :)

Am very tired, but very happy with the outcome. It was a great gathering, albeit I wasn't able to entertain all of them, sorry for that.
Most pics are already uploaded to Flickr, the rest I shall collect from friends slowly....

Random joking pic, heh.
Will update tomorrow! :D

Windows Live Messenger problem
Since yesterday I'm not able to start a conversation with people on my MSN, I wonder why.... I can reply the message when others start the conversation, but seems like all of my messages I started are bounced back, stating "the message cannot be received by the recipient."
Noticed that seems like there's a message delay, or timeout when I start to send a message. The message would only bounce back like ~2 mins after I send 'em. Sometimes I do receive instantenous bounced back message though, but that's minor and lest frequent.
An example of what I'm facing right now.
I thought is the add-on I used, the Messenger Plus! Live is causing the trouble, but the problem still persist after I uninstall it.
Another thing I'm concern is that perhaps yesterday's BIOS update somehow affected it? My initial thought is that BIOS update suppose to apply to the hardware config and it's very unlikely that it would cause such a specific problem, as the Messenger is actually running normally (except can't send message out).
If this is actually the problem, then I'm pretty much helpless as I wouldn't normally touch anything related to BIOS....
Seems to work normally.... but not!
I thought that perhaps is because my Streamyx is acting up, but it seems that I'm the sole victim as everyone else' net is basically stable and normal.
Currently trying to reinstall the Messenger itself, found it is quite a hassle as the Messenger is bundled together under Windows Live Essential pack instead of a standalone program back in MSN Messenger times.
Hopefully reinstalling the program will solve the problem for good, if not I really dunno what to do.... Perhaps the last resort, reformat? I hate to do this.....
I can reply when others start the message, weird huh....
OK, I'm done reinstalling the Windows Live Messenger. Same problem still persist. I wonder is there anything to do with the version 9.0 problem (Build 14.0.8064.206). I might revert back to the previous 8.5 build, now trying hard to find the setup file.
Another method to diagnose whether my net connection is the culprit, later I'll be trying connect via wireless at a public hotspot, but that I'll have to wait until this evening.
That's it for now. I'll keep this updated until I solve the problem.
In the meantime, do send me a message on MSN if you see me online, but I can't assure you that you'll get my reply because of this problem. :(
(-__-")
[UPDATE] 2:48pm.
OK I got it solved.
I downgrade my Windows Live Messenger back to version 8.1 (Build 8.1.0178.00) which was released sometime in 2006.
Luckily I found the standalone setup file in Microsoft's site, a much more reliable site to download such files to avoid any suspicious activities
The Messenger window is somewhat comparable to the 2009 version.
Will wait for the latest Windows Live Messenger update only then decide whether I'll be using the updated version again....

Japanese Language Class
I'm going to Japan next Wednesday, pretty fast 'eh?
Few months ago I announced my plan here, and started the elementary language course. Now, I've completed the course and moving a step forward to another level.
So far I think I've reached JLPT level 3, though I haven't get certified for it, have to sit for the test. Anyhow, am likely to sit for the JLPT Level 2 test later this year.
So far I'm able to converse in simple and basic Japanese, though I still need some time to listen carefully especially those who're speaking just like their Shinkansen.
Too bad I'm still unable to watch those Japanese animes and dramas without the subtitles. I can understand a few basic words but might have struggle to understand those extended phrases. Perhaps is due to the fact that the conversation I practiced mainly academic, and not much of those tactical terms.
I'm glad that I had 2 great teachers to guide me to kick-start studying this language. Ms Komatsubara (小松原 先生) taught us for the first half while Ms Tsunamoto (綱本 先生) guided us for the second half.
Ms. Komatsubara is an experienced teacher who've been teaching for some years already. How can I describe her? Typically gentle, soft-spoken but strict lady. There's no messing around in her class. Teaching in the more traditional manner, so sometimes it can be kinda bored, heh.
Ms. Tsunamoto is a kinda fresh in the teaching field, but just the 2nd day of her teaching I already get used to it already. Still uses the same syllabus as Ms Komatsubara, but the teaching method introduced some interactive between the students, which makes things quite interesting sometimes.
She's just a few years elder than some of us so that makes her just like part of the student as well.
Oh, and not to forgot Mr Oda (小田 先生) as well, who mainly taught us some language grammars but most importantly, the ways of life of the Japanese. It's important to expose us with some of their daily life elements to avoid faux pas. Too bad not many classmates enjoy his class, as they find him boring or so.
I dislike the way some of the classmates shown by purposely skipping his class and giving him a bad impression of Malaysian students.
Besides that, I'm get long fairly well with my classmates. Enjoyed the company of the few sitting besides me.
Caphy, Peggie and me.
Eating out together for lunch is a norm for us classmates. We went to a few places to dine together. Choices are kinda limited as Petaling Street is tourists' spot, so the price is somewhat more expensive than norm.
Lunch together with Ms Tsumamoto.
At the centre.
Well well, many thanks for the sensei's guidance, real helpful and hopefully I can excel in my Japanese studies over there! :)

High Fidelity Audio Quality
Today updated my laptop's sound driver, and noticed a new feature added into the console.
Newly added SRS Powered Premium Sound console.
When I was using Inspiron 1420 the stock sound quality of that laptop is weak, so I decided to try out the SRS Audio Sandbox, which works very well.
More detailed console.
Still in the process of trying to configure the best sounding settings for my headphone. Real good stuff it is!
Oh, and here's my desktop shot.....
Noticed something non-Windows? :P

Japanese VS Malaysia Laptops
Back then they used to say that getting computer in Japan is cheaper than of Malaysia. Well, things had changed lately, all "thanks" to the uprising Japanese Yen.
A senior who recent came back to Malaysia told us that the best is to get a laptop here instead of getting it there as given the same price you pay over in Japan, you only got a unit running on Celeron processor (entry level for Intel processor, inferior to the current Core 2 Duos). Other specs offered may seem to be the minimum specs for Malaysian's standard.
For the specs mentioned above, you can easily get it for around RM 2000+ nowadays.
Heck, even my Dell Studio 15, cost like ~2.5k cheaper, has better specs compared to this Toshiba unit which cost like bomb.
Real rip off.... heck, even local Toshiba sells far cheaper and yet better laptop units than their Japan counterparts!
If you've been observing laptop prices in Malaysia, you must have came across brands like Acer, Dell, HP/Compaq, Toshiba and Fujitsu. BenQ, Lenevo and IBM those are not unheard of but are quite uncommon.
Most of the time the change in specifications would be the processor, RAM, graphic card and HDD space.
Normally they'll be offering Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz and above processor, and at least 2GB RAM to run Vista smoothly. Graphic card is gamer's concern, nothing much to do for casual computer users who mainly use it to online, chat and listening songs. Bigger HDD space, of course is always welcomed as you've more space to store anything you want.
I find that of all those, the one offers the best specs-to-price ratio would be Dell.
Let's say we fixed a price at RM 3000, a standard price most would willing to fork out for a decent laptop.
Dell offers the most worthwhile unit, followed by Acer, and then HP/Compaq, lastly those Japan brands.
I used to shun Dell & Acer and look upon HP. I changed my mind once I started to use Dell. Now I would prefer Dell over HP, heh. Of course, the quality of the brands might still have a gap.
For example, Dell's laptop speaker is nothing compared to HP's default Altec Lansing speaker, I've tried it myself and there's really no contest within both....
Toshiba and Fujitsu are more expensive, and yet people would still go for it simply because the brand's reputation. It's a well known tip that most Japanese brands are tough and durable, especially true when we talk about cars (think Toyota and Honda).
My sis been using her Toshiba laptop for 5 years, from her 1st year in university until she graduated and start working. It's just recently that the laptop went nuts and is almost as good as dead now. She now runs on a HP Pavilion, which I used it to compared the laptop speakers with my previous Dell Inspiron 1420. The result, I've already mentioned above.
Most of the dudes in my class who're going to Japan as well chose Toshiba and Fujitsu. I would recommend them Dell as an alternative choice. Somehow, I don't really prefer Acer though.
Well basically this is just an observation I made lately as I'm planning to get my laptop. This review may be obsolete in few months' time, as nowadays laptops with better specs are getting cheaper and cheaper, and I would expect next year with the same price I can get a better laptop compared to this year's.
This is a very general rule applied to technological stuffs nowadays, price are getting cheaper, and better specs hardwares.

So, let’s focus on the High-End version, the Toshiba dynabook Satellite PXW / 57HW, which features a 15.4-Inch LCD screen with 1,280x800 resolution (WXGA), an Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 (2.40GHz), up to 4GB of PC2-6400 RAM, 250GB of HDD (5,500rpm), a DVD SuperMulti, Wifi b/g and run on Vista Home Premium 32 bit. It costs 146,900 yen (~MYR 5,460)
The design reminds me of the outgoing Dell Inspiron model....

Regarding the Low-Version, the PXW / 55HW, will come with an Intel Celeron 585, 2GB or 4GB of Ram, a 15.4-Inch LCD screen with 1,280x800 resolution (WXGA), 250GB of HDD, a DVD Super Multi…

Back to College, briefly
Today is the 2nd last day of the Japanese language class, and since I had some extra time to spare so I decided to go to college to collect my exam result slip.
Bump into Yong Fei who's going to college as well, so we chatted together and went to college together.
Walking pass from the lecture halls I used to studied in, the Canteen 1, and SPUS block, somewhat transform me back to the time when I'm still studying there.
Many things remained unchanged, but the people around aren't the same. So says the Chinese proverb: 人面不知何处去,桃花依旧笑春风.
Bump in another coursemate, Seng Thiam too. He's coming back to consult lecturers regarding further studies.
Got the result cert collected at the SPUS office, proceed to look for Mr Low to have a chat. Before I went in, Cheng Luan was "occupying" Mr Low. Luckily there's no interruption.
Mr Low is still the same friendly and helpful character, it's good to have a nice little chat with him to get updates on fellow students and so on.
Wanted to look for Ms Chong, but I guess she still have class as she's not in her office. Ms Ong is there, and I spent another ~10 mins chatting with her. Got to know quite a lot of updates from her, those friends, etc.
Will still be going back to college probably tomorrow, if not, the day after tomorrow to get my certs certified.
Just a brief walk in the college compound suddenly altered my mindset back to those time of college. The time shows around 3:45pm but I find it is quite late (college time's standard). It feels somewhat funny as my body clock automatically switch to the college settings even I'm no longer studying there, heh.
TARC..... will never regret choosing it at the first place. Affordable and quality education!

Farewell Gathering Update
The gathering will be held on next Saturday, so here's some updates for those who planned to attend it.
Event: CLF's Farewell Gathering for Friends.
Location: "Happy Seasons" restaurant. (link)
Time: 7pm onwards, tentative 'til 12am.
Date: 28 March 2009, Saturday.
I've plotted 2 maps for easier access via car, as I believe some of my friends will be driving.
From LRT Wangsa Maju.
From Middle Ring Road 2, via Ampang.
Click the pics for full size map.
Again, I remind those who're attending that the gathering will take place in the Winter room. It's cold, really, so you might need to spare a jacket and come over. :P
28 March night is so called Earth Hour, many lights in the city will be shut off for a period of time. I guess this wouldn't affect on our gathering by any means, heh.
If the restaurant plan to participate the cause, it would be interesting too! Imagine, a gathering at night without the lights, lol! So should everyone bring along a torchlight besides jacket? :P
Very unusual request for people to bring those 2 stuffs as normally we only need to bring the people to join, not the jacket and torchlights lol.
Anyway, I'll be sparing both, hahah.... just in case.
P/S: Further updates you can also refer to this Facebook event page.

Today's Shopping List
Afternoon went to Low Yat Plaza briefly to get some stock ups before I left for Japan which is quite soon.
Most expensive purchase of the trip would be the Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007, which cost RM 209. Too bad I missed their promo which they're selling it at RM 189. :(
Since the CD-key can be used to activate up to 3 computers, so I plan to share it with my friend so the cost would be divided eventually.
The fact sheet on the back of the case.
Something you expect when getting original Microsoft product, shiny reflective disc.
Chose to get the original copy to save the hassle if someone were to check whether the copy is legit or not. Better to play safe than sorry, especially when you're going to a foreign land.
Besides that I bought 2 plug adapters to be used over in Japan. Not so costly.
RM 22 is needed to get this Kingston 2GB SD Card. Plan to let parents to start with this new card since the previous 1GB is almost full.
SD cards are bloody cheap nowadays, I still remember those times when RM 80 for a 512MB (0.5GB) SD card was considered a good deal already!
What's next? SDHC!!

Mark's Farewell
* OK this is something happened 2 days ago but had no time to write it up due to final exam.
Karen messaged me on Tuesday night asking whether I wanna join a friend's farewell, who's going to Japan as well.
Wednesday after class I went to Prima Stpk area to catch up with Karen. Still early, so chat around with her 'til the time is almost up.
Karen was my secondary classmate for a year, but our classes were usually quite close to each others for most of the years as well. She's a brilliant student, full As student as far as I recalled. Recently she got 4 As for STPM as well, big congrats for her!! :D
6pm+, walked to Station One cafe and wait for the people to turn up. As usual.... most are caught late.... (-__-")
Most of the attendees are from class 5S2, Mark's class. Although I'm from S3 but I don't feel like an odd figure there. :P
Ordered grilled chicken rice, nice.... better than I expected. No pic to show, as I'm not so keen on taking food pics.
A pic of some of the attendees.... Siao Ting, Shy Yuin, Sun Hua, Siew Mei.
Those fellas had some card games where the loser had to do some silly tricks agreed before the game starts. Here's one of the scenario.... a "drunken" dude ask for beer refill.
Pity Kam hahah.....
Because I had my final test on Friday so I cannot stay anymore longer. Mark shared with my some of his experiences during interview, which sooner or later I'm gonna face those Japaneses. Was kinda surprise to learn that they even limit the time for interview, which make things more tensed up. I just hope that I'll do fine when it is my turn. :S
Mark is going to Kagoshima (鹿児島), located at the tip of the country. It's thousands miles away from Tokyo so it's kinda impossible we meet each other there.
We agreed that someday we might meet up either at Kyoto or Osaka, which is in between our respective places.
The 2 guys, one's on the way to Japan and another one who's going to Japan real soon.
I knew Mark since primary school, can't remember from when but perhaps dated back in 1996, or 1998, can't remember exactly. We were in the same secondary school as well. Very smart guy he is, we both shared common interest in cars and Mai Kuraki lol....
Good luck and have fun over there Mark! I'll be joining very soon..... :D

Asian Dream Song
* Republish this post from a previous article I wrote in Aug 2008. *
(original 12 Aug 2008 post).
I love this song, simply love it! One of my favourite pieces by the maestro Joe Hisaishi!
One thing interesting bout Joe Hisaishi's works is some of his works are performed in various styles, such as piano solo, orchestral or a concerto between different instruments.
Today I'm sharing this song, in 3 versions which I have found so far.
(download link at the end of the article)
Brief of the 3 versions:
If you're a fan of instrumental music like me, I'm pretty sure you'll find these songs very nice too. If you don't like it you can just delete it after that, you wouldn't lose anything. :)
I will be posting up "Summer" maybe tomorrow or sometime else if I remember it. It's also another masterpiece from Joe Hisaishi, a much lively and light-hearted piece.

Brief of the 3 versions:
- The original work, a concerto between Joe's piano & a few cellos. (titled "Asian Dream Song" from the album Piano Stories II)
- The orchestral version, which is performed live and recorded in his album Works II. (titled "Asian Dream Song (Orchestral)"
- The live version, a piano + 9 cellos. The best of all 3 I think. (titled "Asian Dream Song" (Live))

Jogging
I last kicked a football few months ago, as I'm getting busy with my language studies I no longer had the mood to play football.
Used to be playing badminton with my mates but everyone's busy so we can't arrange a time to play together. Swimming is good but it's quite bothersome to drive all the way to the club.
So in order to keep myself fit, I went for jogging. I did not went to gym to run on the treadmills because to me that seems like a hamster running on the static ground, which I don't enjoy. I prefer to walk around an ever-changing scene where I run along, to get myself afresh and not easily get bored looking at the same view when running on the treadmill.
When I see the weather is clear, I would have the urge to go out and run for awhile. Usually I would pick either Friday or Saturday evening as I find those days more relaxing (Sunday is somewhat tensed as Monday's coming).
Usually I started slowly by just simple walk around my area, would either walk to Section 5 or Section 6 depending the situation. Personally I would like to walk around Section 6 then Section 5 but sometimes I would just walk either one.
Section 6 is located quite some distance away from the main road so lesser car pollution, and has lots of trees, which is why I like to jog near there.
Section 5 is a little noisier as it is closer to the main road. Still, some greens around that area make it still a good place to jog around. I like the uphill and downhill run over there.
My jogging path for Section 5.
Section 6.
Overall, including distance from my home and back home.
When jogging, I would also spend some tranquil time with myself, to commute with the spirit within me, questioning on the views I've seen or reflect upon things that I've been doing, or planned to do in my life so far. It's a good source to relax a bit besides listening to music.
I noticed I spent most of my time sitting in front of the computer which is not healthy, so that's why I would pick some outdoors activity to do so that I won't be sick or something lol. Currently maintaining at ~65kg for a few years already. :P

Nocturnal
I work best during the midnight, when I'm all alone focusing on the computer and listening to some great music. :)
Been spending the night chatting and reorganizing some college photos, which you can check it out here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/clf/sets/72157606534131864/
I realised that I still have lots of great pics I haven't upload 'em onto my Flickr. Will be doing so as soon as I can, because those are some of the memorable pictures.
Looking through the pics, I kinda miss the glorious college days and those friends.... It was fun! Luckily I've blogged many things that happened so I can go through all those wonderful times again through this blog. :)
Time flies swiftly..... I hope I can build up another memorable moments of my life in Japan!
