Temporary Com Solution

Temporary Resort
Originally uploaded by CLF.

My main computer's graphic display is getting from bad to worse. Today it mess up even when I'm trying to surf the net.

Out of frustration, I decided to "migrate" my computer into the laptop my sis left. Decided to try something more daring this time, connected the LCD monitor to the laptop, If I could connect the keyboard to the laptop, then it'll be great. It will looks like I'm still using the desktop, except that it's running on the laptop's processor unit. Kinda cool huh?

This is just a temporary resort for my computer. I wanna send the main com's CPU to the shop to check it up again, oh well.

Bad Timing

Dunno what is going wrong with my life recently. I do not always complain, well this time maybe I just need a place to express out what I feel, some sort of ranting bout things that occurs during bad timing, I think.

First, is the damned computer problem. Now I know it's something wrong with the graphic display component. When I boot up something that requires graphic displays, say game(FIFA '05) or program(Google earth) the com will auto-restart. Still not affecting my online routine, but not able to play games is definitely costing the pleasure of "utilizing" the computer.

Second, a relative of mine borrowed my car for few days as his car broke down. He's rushing for some projects now so desperately need a transport. I'm of course not happy bout it, I planned to drive to college but couldn't do so tomorrow. I'll be expecting the car to be returned by Wednesday, when he's finished with the project.

I know it's stupid of me to get upset with this, well people need it for noble reason, what can I do? It will be a very rude of me to turn down people's request. Just.... why choose to borrow the car this time? Before this I still couldn't drive and I've no problems to let anyone borrow the car, bad bad timing, when I finally can drive then suddenly someone need the car, bad luck really.

I hope my luck will turn from bad to good this week, I will not be please if something gone out of my control and beyond my expectations, something that shouldn't be happening, all these sudden shocks, I don't want it happening!!

Dream of Cars (part 1)

I know I just got my license, so it's too early for me to think of actually owning a car. Currently driving a 14 years old car, Proton Wira 1.6, which I find is quite comfortable to drive. Parents had think about replacing this Wira but I think this is unlikely to happen so soon, perhaps few years to go?

Anyway, I've considered what car is down to earth for me to own, and what car is basically impossible for me to own.

In this first part I'll write about something more practical, something more affordable. So here it goes:

1. Proton Satria Neo

A whole new Proton cars that was launched last year. I'm pretty impressed with the car's design and the quality, regarded by some parties as one of the best Proton cars ever made. Price ranging from RM 43k to RM 55k, perhaps a little too much for a hatchback? I've seen some of them on the road and I like it. Moreover, this blog's new title shares the same name, NEO. :)
(more info)

2. Perodua Myvi

Malaysian's favourite car, Myvi is the best selling car in year 2006. My neighbours own this car and my friend's mum got this car as well, at the same time I like this car too, hah. Price ranged around RM 45.3k to RM 51.3k.
(more info)

3. Toyota Vios/ Honda City / Toyota Corolla Altis/ Honda Civic

Japan cars are known for their quality built, good cars they made, even surpassing European and US car makers. Toyota or Honda, give me anyone of them and I'm a happy lad. :D
These cars are common in Malaysia, but it's costly for a starter car. These cars cost from RM 90k to RM 130k, depends on the model.
Because of the government's import tax stuffs, these good cars cost more than the local counterparts(eg: Proton Waja).

Well, that's enough for the "practical" cars, I might write the part 2 tomorrow, or sometime else. :)

Most of the car infos are taken from PaulTan.org.

Faulty Hardware issue

I dunno where should I start bout this post, but things just happened last night and today the matter is getting worse.

Yesterday night I was playing MapleSEA for quite some time, then late night I had a game of FIFA '05, which the screen is mess up a little by that time. First of all I thought it is not a big deal, so proceeded to continue the game til late night. The problem still persist but it doesnt bug me that much so I ignore it, feeling that things might be solved on the next day.

So this morning wanna play Maple again, but was "greeted" by screens below:

Faulty hardware render
Faulty hardware render

Not only Maple is affected, my FIFA '05 also acting up the same too. Fortunately this problem doesnt affect normal computer usage like online, chat, surfing net. If not I wont be able to write this entry now.

I thought the Dell LCD monitor is acting up again so I switched the old Samsung CRT monitor(tedious task), which I still kept until now. I thought problem will be resolved but the screen still showing same answer.

Now then I know it's not the monitor's fault, so it must be something to do with the components inside the CPU. Checked, cant see any prob there. RAM is still intact(RAM had been the issue for previous com problems), dunno what's wrong with it.

Since I've no idea what is going wrong with the computer's graphic, I only can figure out trying to solve it by updating the graphic driver. Hopefully, this can resolve the problem, once in for all. (>___<)

Aseana Percussion Unit

Just found out this very talented local percussion group which featured at the Rainforest World Music Festival 2007.

Personally I'd like to try out percussion instruments, especially like the ones shown in the video. Combining percussion instruments from different culture backgrounds, blend it together and here you go, a wonderful "rojak" of music!

Passed my driving test. Will be able to drive from Friday onwards. Yeah! :D

Home Alone

Empty

Parents went to ShangHai for business trip today, and will be coming back on Friday. Not a big deal, I'm used to being alone.

However, a little unrestful within myself, perhaps still feeling nervous bout tomorrow's driving test? I've many plans to be carry out once I'm able to drive legally, heh.

Tomorrow is the Test

A little nervous now, tomorrow's my driving test. Just wish for the best that luck is with me.

Of all 3 basic tests, now I'm having problem in side-parking. Have to avoid crashing any poles or I'll be failed. The other 2 test, uphill driving and 3 point turn should be no problem.

As for on the road, as long as there isnt any unexpected circumstances I should be able to drive back to the centre without failing.

Then of course, I hope I'll pass for the 1st time for good and dont need to repeat the test. I never failed anything before in my life, well hopefully, heh.

One of the best book I've ever read

In case you're not sure what book I'm talking about, it is the latest and last book of Harry Potter series. I don't think I need to mention the name, do I?

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

So I read the "book", finished it say, within 24 hours? Spent most of my Sunday reading the book on the screen you know.

Again and again I've to repeat this book is a good ending for the series, really. If you've read previous 6 books before this last book, you'll feel the same too. And if you haven't read the previous books and eager want to read the last episode, I strongly advise you read all 6 books before laying your hand on the 7th book. It doesn't make too much sense as you just read the last book alone.
Read it in sequence:
  1. Philosopher's Stone
  2. Chamber of Secret
  3. Prisoner of Azkaban
  4. Goblet of Fire
  5. Order of Phoenix
  6. Half Blood Prince
  7. Deathly Hallows

I shall not disclose too much content of the story, if you want to know either read the book or find it elsewhere. It is not that hard to find out things bout the book?

Anyway when I could get the REAL copy of the book soon, I'd read it once more. Reading the story on the screen and the book is totally different experience you know.

"I see what Bellatrix meant...you really need to mean it." said Harry Potter when casting the Cruciatus curse on a Death Eater.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

How tempting... local hypermarkets are selling this "hot-cake", possibly the most popular book for this year at a very low price, RM 70, compare to RM 110 price quoted by local bookshops like MPH, Popular and Times. This had causes dispute over the bookshops, as they've decided not to put the books on shelf during the release date. Those who've pre-ordered the book however, will still be able to collect the book from the bookstores though.

As for me, I still have to wait for awhile before I can get hold of this book. My sis had pre-ordered US edition for me, but I think I'll only get it either next week, or maybe October.
I dont mind for the delay, as I've read the full plot on Wikipedia lol (though I'm not sure is it the real plot or fake).

Much anticipated book, like what JK Rowling said the story is much, much darker than previous books.

Driving Lesson

Perodua Kancil, the car I've been training for the lesson and for the test.

Today just completed 4th driving lesson, which means I have 1 more lesson to go before my driving test. My driving test is dated on next Wednesday, 25th of July. Friends who passed the test told me the test might take up to a whole day to finish off. If one is unfortunate enough to fail the test, he/she will have to resit the test again later. Well, I dont wanna resit the test, settle things off in 1 day is enough!

The driving test consist of 3 basic tests and 1 on-road test. 3 basic test includes uphill ride stopping at the marker, side-parking, and 3-point turn. So far I dont have much problem with side-parking and 3-point turn, except that I've to practise more on uphill ride.

The on-road test, I'll required to drive along the road near the driving-lesson center about 12km. Many people says that this is the part where you'll bribe the officer or they'll fail the test. I believe not all of them are bribe-lovers, some will go according to the rules and some might curi-tulang(slack off) abit. 'til now I dont really had a clear picture on what will be going on when I sit for my test, we'll see.

I've some friends who're taking the test this week so, wish them, Green Tea & Fish Ball best of luck and same goes to me next week!! ;)

Intercontinental Football Cup

Although the European football seasons are still preparing for the new season, in other parts of the world players still continue to play the game, making the game literally non-stop for the entire year. Asia and South America are playing their continental cup, that is AFC Asian Cup and Copa America.

Most football fans got the news that Brazil had beaten their arch-rival Argentina 3-0 to regain the Copa America title, which is a little surprise to me. I've been supporting Brazil since 1998, but compare their recent form with Argentina many would say Argentine plays a better game.

Anyway the fact is shown clearly, 3-0 to trash Argentina proves that Brazil outclassed Argentina. So, congrats for the sambas and the lady luck isnt shining on Argentina's side this time, again.

Now back to the AFC Asian Cup. It's embarrassing for Malaysia's national team, being one of the host for this tournament, shamefully kicked out from the competition just after 2 matches, losing to China (5-1) and Uzbekistan (5-0) at HOME!! In a football match, losing a game more than 3 goals margin is consider humiliating, and yet the boys lost the game in front of home supporters.

For Malaysians, everyone would agree that our national football level had declined to a level where it's almost a nation's joke. Many local fans rather watch foreign football games than watching local football, no matter it's local clubs or the national team. The standard is so bad that some criticise them for playing the game below "amateur level", definitely not a compliment for the local football authority. It's not that we're not patriotic to support our national team, but there's no quality in the game, watching the game will be waste of time.

Until now most of the teams still left 1 more game to play. There's still no clear picture who'll be qualified for the next knock-out round, it is still a tight game. Favourites like South Korea, Japan and Australia arent performing that well, so there's possible teams to upsets the big names this time. Also, take note of those Middle East countries, as their quality is known to be more superior than the East Asian counterparts. I dont follow much Middle East football so I could not give my opinion on them.

P/S: Nike sponsored the official matchball for both tournaments. The Nike Mercurial Veloci.

Latest gadget in the family

Today just bought a Canon PowerShot A550.

Cost RM 600, comes with free glossy photo paper. Is it a good bargain? Yea I think so. As what you can see from the pic above, it's a 7.1 Megapixel cam with 4X Optical Zoom, nothing much to shout about for the specs.

Father planned to get this cam because the previous cam drained battery too fast, and not so handy.

When it comes to camera, you won't go wrong for choosing Canon!! ;)

Need some help here

Does anyone knows how to setup a password protected post on Blogger?
I've seen some people make protected post like that but it's based on WordPress. I not sure bout Blogger though, any idea?

New Blog Title Header

So what do you think with this new header?

Neo Rhapsody

Also, I'm changing the blog title from "Rhapsody of CLF" to "Neo Rhapsody", heh. I will still, however, refer this blog as Rhapsody of CLF though. :)

Redesigned Blog

Previous template.

New template.

I've finally managed to redesign this blog after putting up the previous white template for a whole year! I think change it once in a year should be no harm right?

So what do you think about this new blue design? This is actually a customized Blogger template, I like the function of customizing own template. Previously I've to edit the HTML codes which is troublesome and time-wasting as the code is long and you sometimes dont really know which part of code works wrongly or so, making the redesign a tedious work.

I've noticed the blog title header is a little dull, I'll try to make a new header image soon to replace the words. I still like the previous header though.

Kuala Lumpur by Night

Taken from The Star. (Link)

Like many capital cities in the world, Kuala Lumpur gets even more alive at night. Every landmark building across the city is brightly lit, lending a festive air to the capital each night. This is the time when KLites get out to enjoy the city’s nightlife.

KL’s pride
The famous Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world, is a must-visit for tourists. The landmark has become not only the symbol of KL but of the nation as well.

Golden Triangle area
People thronging the numerous trendy sidewalk cafes in front of the Sungei Wang Plaza, one of the oldest shopping complexes in the city.

City’s landmark
The Sultan Abdul Samad building has long been seen as one of KL’s oldest landmarks. The building, which formerly housed the highest courts in the land, is still a popular tourist destination, mostly due to its proximity to the nearby Dataran Merdeka, the site of many carnivals and open-air events.

Quaint atmosphere
Petaling Street, KL’s Chinatown, is a hive of activity. People are drawn to the area, thanks to its cheap items and good food.

Outstanding
The KL Tower, standing tall at 421m, is a visible landmark, especially at night with the revolving restaurant at the top brightly lit.

Eye-catching
The panel walls of Wisma Fui Chiu, situated near Petaling Street, lend glamour to the city’s landscape.

Facelifted Mercedes SL

Well, this is the concept picture of facelifted Mercedes Benz SL class. It is one of the high-end coupe offered by Mercedes Benz (competitor to BMW 6 series and Audi A5), and I came across this car from the game Need For Speed MW last year, which impress me a lot. How pathetic, I can only "touch" the car in the game.

I've spotted the real car at the streets of Perth during January, a black SL 65 AMG, a high-end model of the class. Some might noticed that the facelifted car shares the same headlight design as Mercs CLS, which is my another favourite.

Harry Potter 5 movie

Today went Time Square for movie with a gang of classmates, what movie? You should know by the poster.

Was late bout 15 mins for the movie due to mistimed estimation. Movie starts at 1.45pm but we only start our journey around 1.15pm, 2 train rides and still have to collect the ticket.

We've missed the intro part. When we're seated the screen showing members from The Order of Phoenix came and rescue Harry from the Dursley's house.

As usual HP series movies are highly modified and only showing the major plots of the story, neglecting side-stories that would make the story even more interesting. Sometimes this make the movie looks kinda awkward itself as many occasions are skipped and what's even worse, tweaking the storyline from the original storybook.
For example, the movie shows that Cho Chang confessed to Umbridge about the DA after being served with Veritaserum (truth potion) , but according to the storybook it's actually Cho Chang's friend Marietta who leak out the DA to Umbridge.
Why the movie would want to alter this important plot? I guess they're saving some cost to hire the minor character Marietta.

No point I argue for that point, those movie-makers sometimes wanted to earn money rather than setting an "animated" version of the storybook itself. If they did so, I guess it'll took more than 24 hours to cover all the details in the storybook, whether it's a minor or major plot, without altering the storyline at all. How unrealistic this is.

After movie we settle down for Sushi King. Over there met with classmates who're eating there as well.
I spent RM10 for the meal. 2 unagi sushis (my fav but costly), 2 cuttlefish sushis and 1 futomaki, plus a cup of free-refill green tea.
They serve decent sushis, but the price..... (-__-"). I think I'll only step into Sushi King again if I dont need to pay for what I ordered. LOL!!

Hmm.... I've noticed that the entire outings I'm relatively quiet, didnt talk too much or so, like does not fit into the gang that well. Aiks, weakness exposed once again!!

P/S:
I think the most amusing scene during the movie is when Umbridge is questioning Snape bout his job as a teacher in Hogwarts, which annoys Snape and showing annoying but funny expression on his face. I started to like Snape this character in the movie, but unfortunately his role in the movie is greatly decreased due to the reason I mentioned above.

2009 Mercedes Benz CLK

Concept car of one of my favourite cars, the Mercedes Benz CLK. This pic showing 3rd generation of the model, will be launched in few years time.

Let's have a look at the previous 2 generations....
2003 CLK

1998 CLK

The 2009 pic looks like a redegisned '03 model. This is not the final production picture so just take it as a reference. Note that the next generation E class would have the same headlight design shown in the '09 CLK.

Personally, if I will ever got this car, I'll rebadge the CLK on the rear to become CLF. LOL!!

Test Finished

Banzai!! The 1st test for me is being concluded today by the last General Paper test!!
Well, the overall test is trickier than I expect.

I've got back some papers now, but I dont think I want to write something bout the papers until I get all the papers back.

Today lecturers hinted us that there will be some changes in the exam system within our course. We'll be seating for our year-end exam around Nov in the main college hall, and the result will determine whether the students are eligible to continue taking the scholarship for the next semester. This doesnt affect me that much as I am, unfortunately, not a scholarship holder. :\

As a reward for all the hardworks preparing the test, some classmates decided to treat ourselves for a movie this Friday after class. So far they've planned going to Time Square's GSC to watch "Harry Potter: The Order of Phoenix" movie.
I've watched previous HP movies and quite disappointed with the movie quality that was inferior than reading the storybook itself. I always had high hopes on the new movie continuation, so please do not fail me this time!

GP - Fund for local paintings discussion

Just finished this essay moments ago for General Paper's homework. :)

  • More funds should be allocated for exhibition of local painting. Discuss.

Malaysia is a multi-cultural country and is rich in its distinctive local heritages. Arts, has been playing a vital role to this great achievement. Just recently local press had reported the local artists based in the capital’s signature artistic landmark, the Central Market, better known as the pasar seni in Bahasa Melayu. The government ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage acknowledges this group of people who contributed to the local artistic development, had hinted to increase funding for the arts movement, including allocated funds for exhibition of local paintings. This issue receive praises from the publics for the government’s act to improvise local arts, but also drawn critics from certain parties whom labelled the government’s decision as a waste of resources.

The majority of the public give thumbs up for this decision is because this act will encourage and promote local artists and cultures, giving them more publicity to get the society’s attention. When the public are aware with the local arts and started to appreciate it and try to treasure it, and thus preserving and conserving the unique traditional paintings that would be easily forgotten in this modern world. This is a serious issue as the lost of people to succeed traditional paintings would bring an unimaginable effect upon the future generations who do not have any idea about local arts.

On the other hand, the exhibition of paintings would also give recognition for the artists who spend most of their lime involve with arts. This will give them a spiritual lift-up as they know their artworks are being accepted and appreciated by the public. This can also lead to the discovery of new talents in arts. More people will get involved in the circle of arts, possible making it one of the mainstream business as well, especially benefiting our country’s tourism.

Talk about Malaysia’s tourism, one cannot underestimate the effects of local paintings to tourists. Central Market itself had been a tourism attraction as tourists can get nice and affordable souvenirs there. Some might brought paintings back to their country and promote it to their friends or families, indirectly attracting more tourists flock to our country, which is beneficial for our economic growth. Although this effort seems to be in small-scale, but the long term effects the paintings brought to our tourism cannot be ignored. The paintings also encourage future arts investment globally, as more and more local paintings are being recognised internationally and possible being on par with other masterpieces from foreign artists.

Those who voice out objections with this plan of course got their reasons to backup their arguments. Some complain that the government should allocate the funds for something more important, like educations, rural area developments, charity works and so on. They point out that although arts’ movement cannot be neglected as well, but the priority of the funding should be given for more practical uses.

They also comment that the arts exhibition is not profitable as most of the time people would just go to exhibition see the paintings but not buying them as mostly those paintings would cost hundreds and thousands. Those unsold artworks most of the time would be kept by the artists themselves. Even though the paintings itself worth some value, but without potential buyers they would neither generate revenue to the artists nor the organisers. Some even commented harshly that the act is like throwing cash into the sea.

The debate over this issue has not being resolved, as the government have not take any action on this issue, whether the funding would be provided, or just a blank promise. Whatever decision is made by the government, they should take the future generation in consideration. Like I mentioned above, we do not want the future generation to lose in touch with our heritage arts, so I personally think that the government should think twice and act wisely to preserve the arts, and let the exhibitions of arts idea to be realised in Malaysia.

Fei Yu Ching at Genting

So last night accompanied parents up to Genting Highlands to watch 费玉清, the Taiwanese ballad singer. Hmm.... just search on the net found out that he's actually same age as my parents, heh.

He's an evergreen singer, his fans ranged from oldies to young generation like me, but in the concert hall I guess more than 50% are oldies. For the first time, Arena of Stars in Genting are fully seated!! I've been the concerts and performances at the Arena but this is the 1st time I see all the seats are occupied! From this you can judge that how popular is Fei Yu Ching, heh.

He sang about 50 songs during the 2 hours concert, he's singing non-stop! The only pause is when he's drinking water, or addressing the audience. He sings with his trademark style raising his head while singing, and every song he sang sounds good!!

The ending part of the concert is the best part, where he tries to mimic fellow artistes singing style and songs. The last song he sang is 千里之外 which is a popular hits song last year duet with Jay Chou. This time he solo the song, and I've manage to record it down lol.
(Link)
Since it's a recorded soundclip with my mp3 player so please do not expect CD-like quality haha.

Really enjoy the show, real good stuff. Parents say they're planning to watch Engelbert Humperdinck's concert next month, and I'm a little doubtful whether I should follow them to watch it that time? For this Fei Yu Ching concert I went is because I just finish most of my test and deserves a little entertainment, and because personally I like him so, there it goes!
