Snow In Tokyo (Part I)

* Part II, the Daytime Edition *

1st of February 2010, one of the most amazing moments happened last night here in Tokyo.
Weather forecast taken on yesterday afternoon.

I was very excited and anticipating to experience the snow for the first time in my life.
First it started to rain around afternoon, rather early as the forecast shows around evening (the Japanese Meteorological Agency rarely get things wrong!). By evening, the rain had turn from water droplets into sleet (term referring to mixture of rain and snow, called mizore [霙] in Japanese).

I went out briefly around the evening to get dinner, not knowing that it's already "snowing" as I thought the rain's still going on.

Noticing the pattern of the droplets are "floating" haphazardly instead of the usual straight line, I look at the droplets carefully and realised that it's not rain! It's snow! (sleet, to be exact).

Took this video while walking. The wind was freezing and at one point I couldn't help but accidentally cursed lol.

The umbrella was covered with ice chunks.

Flash up so that you can see what's falling down clearer.

Time to head up to the roof top! Let's flash!

As the weather's turning colder, finally the sleet has turned from ice chunk into snow!

The following pics are taken by my friend who borrowed the camera last night. I was tired so didn't join them for fun at night.

First they've recorded these videos, walking from the hostel to the nearby shop.

Lots of footsteps on the road.

These 2 pics may be plain but when you stitch both together....

Right, that's all for Part I. I've decided to split it into 2 posts as one features the night while the other will feature the day. :)

  1. I already have enough of snow for the last three years, and like you said, a little taste of it is good enough. Talking about slippery roads, and not being able to walk properly is enough bothering >.<
