Pavilion

Afternoon headed to this relatively new shopping mall to watch a movie with parents. Father had a few complimentary GSC passes featuring some of the Oscar nominated films.

We settled for the winner "Slumdog Millionaire".

Since we still have some time before the show starts we hangout at the mall.

I like Pavilion as it is not as crowded as Suria KLCC and very spacious. I enjoyed walk around Pavilion but too bad I do not go there frequently.

Father bought a Sony voice recorder for his work use.
2GB for RM 470.... not the cheapest but at least quality is assured. I'm quite confident with Sony's stuff after getting my Walkman, but I'm still remain doubtful over their camera & laptop (the VAIO).

Bought some books at the Times Bookstore too. 3 for 2 promo, for Tony Buzan's books which covers Verbal Intelligence, Spiritual Intelligence and Creative Intelligence. I may not be able to finish all in short time but I plan to bring it with me abroad.

Head into the cinema at 2:15pm, waited awhile and the show starts...........

and walk out from the cinema around 4:35pm. What's my say on this Oscar-winner? Errr..... story-wise it may be fresh for the Westerners but to me it's just some sort of growing-up stories of 2 adventurous brothers who came from the slum area.

I had high expectations of it's film score but throughout the movie I didn't find it significant or the tune enjoyable. Sorry to say but I'm kinda disappointed. At the same time, given the nature of this film, I cannot expect something grande orchestral pieces like those sci-fi movies (eg: Star Wars, LOTR).

Well given the movie ticket is free, I've no complains here.

While going through those IT shoplets, father suddenly came out a bizzare idea which did not came across my mind before. He says I can get a new laptop while he'll be using my current one (which is the one I'm blogging from right now).

Am very surprise, but since he gave the green light so I go ahead with the plan.

Upon surfing the Dell's website for awhile, I decided to get this.

Dell Studio 15

Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.40GHz
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32bit
1 year warranty
15.6" screen (1366 X 768)
Jet black colour
3GB RAM (1+2GB)
320GB HDD
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW combo drive
512MB ATi Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Creative Sound Blaster Xi-F MB
Intel WiFi link 5100
Bluetooth

RM 3,028
(http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=my&cs=mydhs1&kc=&l=en&oc=S510224MY&s=dhs)

The specs is better than those of this current Inspiron 1420 which I purchased in Dec 2007.

The "upgrades" would be faster processor (2.0GHz VS 1.5GHz), bigger screen (15.6" VS 14.1"), bigger RAM (3GB VS 2GB), better graphic card (Radeon HD 4570 512MB VS GeForce 8400M GS 128MB), larger HDD (320GB VS 160GB), and lastly, better sound card.
Price difference between the 2 units is less than RM 200, yet the upgrades are significant.

I try to squeeze the Studio 15 specs under RM 3k but this is the best I can get. Studio 14 laptop, with worse specs, are selling more than this figure! I dunno what on Earth those Dell calculators are doing.... slower processor, smaller HDD, smaller screen but cost more!

I've placed my order on Dell's site so it should be delivered by next weekend, which is around my birthday. Can say it's a nice early birthday gift, heheh.

Soon I'll be migrating tons of files from this com to the new one.....

Design-wise, it's definitely better than the Inspiron series. However I do hope that this Studio 15 can live up to my expectations.
